A new white paper, Driving the Performance Agenda in Education, from Affinity Workforce, explores steps that school and MAT leaders are taking in order to tackle the teacher recruitment and skills crisis, and to attract high-quality teaching staff.

As many as 85% of school and MAT heads report that they regularly compromise or deviate from their original recruitment specification simply in order to get teachers in to fill vacant positions. Examples of this include compromising on qualifications and skills (46%), cultural fit (44%), experience (44%), or subject specialism (44%).

With over 2,000 activities, written by trusted authors and linked to the EYFS and Development Matters, Bloomsbury Early Years aims to ease the burden of planning, save time and help practitioners to inspire the children in their care. 

The activities on Bloomsbury Early Years are easily searchable by topic, curriculum objective, age or time of year, which means that those working with children from 0-5 in settings and at home can filter the website by early learning goals or ensure that they are clearly linking to curriculum and Ofsted requirements.

Monkey Puzzle

Monkey Puzzle Nursery opened on Friday in New Cross bringing a new premium childcare offering to the area.

The nursery was founded by Arlind Marku, owner of neighbouring Monkey Puzzle Bromley, which was voted in the top-10 day nurseries in London and achieved an Ofsted rating of Good in 2016. This second location for the local entrepreneur, who grew up in New Cross, will be run by his brother Jon. Monkey Puzzle New Cross was made possible with a £145,000 funding package from HSBC. The loan was used to refurbish the rented building and fit it out with top of the range equipment and facilities for the children.

Busy Bees nurseries raises £80k for Meningitis Now

Busy Bees, the UK’s leading childcare provider, is celebrating a successful year of fundraising across its nurseries for Meningitis Now.

A grand total of £85,622 was raised by Busy Bees’ 344 UK nurseries, with children, nursery staff and parents getting involved in lots of fun and exciting activities that helped to reach the total.

Never Too Young To Grieve boy looking out of window

A book called Never Too Young To Grieve has been launched for EYFSstaff to support bereaved children under the age of five. 

The initiative is a partnership between childhood bereavement charity Winston’s Wish and leading childcare provider Busy Bees. 

Never Too Young To Grieve targets individuals and professionals who support young children during and after the loss of a parent or carer. It draws on the 25 years’ experience of Winston’s Wish supporting bereaved children, young people and their families. The book offers information, guidance and activities specifically to support the ‘forgotten mourner’ generation, often left behind in the grieving process.

An internationally successful autism programme for children aged 18-40 months is launching in the UK. The USA's early autism intervention programme, Early Start Denver Model (ESDM), is being launched by the Re:Cognition Health clinic.

Hailed as one of the top 10 medical breakthroughs in 2012, ESDM is a play-based therapy that has rapidly been adopted in the USA, Canada, Australia and France as an effective method for treating toddlers with autism. Several published studies have shown evidence of improvements in cognitive skills and IQ, language and social behaviour of young children who have received early treatment with the ESDM programme.
