Wiggles fingers

Janna, Nursery Manager at Wiggles & Giggles Day Nursery, provides five top tips for choosing the right nursery for your child.

Choosing the right nursery will depend on many factors based on location, size or whether it is near the school you would want your child to attend.  Once you’ve decided on these factors, the following should help you decide which nursery is right for your child.

daynurseries.co.uk Helps Nurseries Tackle Childcare Recruitment Problems

A new and innovative CV search tool has been launched by daynurseries.co.uk to help nurseries and children’s centres find the right staff.

The tool allows nurseries and children’s centres (employers) to search for candidates based on the desired job role, salary expectations, languages spoken, location and type of contract that they have stated.

The innovation will provide vital support to nurseries that are currently having to contend with the 30 hours ‘free’ childcare policy, the introduction of the national living wage, and rising business costs.

When an employer clicks on a CV they are interested in, they can then save it, add notes and email the candidate directly.

How can a good nursery become outstanding in the eyes of the regulator?

outstanding nursery

The proportion of nurseries judged 'Good' or 'Outstanding' at their last inspection now stands at 95 per cent.  The importance of an outstanding rating for a nursery cannot be understated; outstanding nurseries often have long waiting lists and find it easier to recruit good quality staff.  But what does a provider need to do to achieve such a rating when it is only awarded to approximately 19 per cent of nurseries? Rachel Birks, Partner in the Regulatory team at law firm Ward Hadaway in Manchester, has some pointers.

Let our children sing!

As a mum to three boys, I have always valued the importance of a broader curriculum, one that includes the creative arts; giving children opportunities to explore, grow and express their emotions.

My children are now adults. One works in the city and two have followed the creative arts as their chosen professions.

Why am I passionate about creative arts?

I completely appreciate the importance of academic learning, but I also strongly believe that children need to develop as individuals with the creative arts supporting in many ways; with communication and language development and, most importantly, personal, social and emotional behaviour.

Start the new school year by teaching children good hand hygiene procedures

With preparations for the new school year well underway, high on the curriculum for all new pupils will be teaching them good hand hygiene habits to minimise absence by stopping the spread of common, contagious infections such as colds and flu.

As more lessons seek to inspire and engage their pupils by progressing from the classroom to the great outdoors, teaching staff need to provide hand washing facilities.
